Little Boy Blue

Happy Boy

I am in LOVE with these handmade booties someone gave Silas at his baby shower. He wears them all of the time and I know they'll be on his feet through the winter and even into spring.

Bye-Bye Summer

We all thought we'd go swimming last weekend and it turned into a "I dare you to get in that frigid water" type of afternoon. Even though it's still in the 80's during the day, these Californian-turned-Texan folks think it's too cold to be swimming.

Riley got the fun job of draining the pool.

Bye-Bye Easy Set Pool by Intex...you've been good to us. See you again next summer.

Riley's First Race

Friday afternoon we looked online to see the schedule of events for the annual Floresville Peanut Festival. (Floresville is known as the peanut capital of Texas). As we were looking to see when the parade starts, times of carnival, etc...we saw there was a kids race downtown around the old Courthouse. Knowing our firstborn and how he loves to run...we asked him if he wanted to enter. He gave us an enthusiastic YES and was almost too excited to sleep that night.

Well, Grandpa didn't think it was appropriate that Riley run in his cowboy boots or his Keen water shoes, so he offered to buy the boy his first pair of real runners.

Riley and his competition.

Off they go...for a 0.6 mile race.

Riley got 2nd place!

He was in the age group 3-5 years old but right at the start line, they added the 6 year olds into his category. I'm not sure why. Riley was ahead of them all until the very last 20 feet when he got tired and slowed down. A six year old (far smaller than him) ran right past him and got 1st place. While mama gave him a-talkin-to about never stopping in a race...he was pleased as punch to get 2nd place. We figure it's probably good for his humility. Being the biggest kid around for your age must be hard.

Egg Business

What's happening at Chez Poulet, you ask?

Well...we're doing a lot of feeding and watering and playing but we're still only getting two eggs a day. We expected these ladies to be laying by mid-September but now we're hoping for mid-October. Won't it be grand to get 25 eggs a day?
