Finished the quilt I've been working on for Riley Dean. Last November I was in Manhattan, Kansas and fell in love instantly with this material from Moda, American Jane. I started cutting everything to size during that visit, began machine piecing in December, and finished all of te hand quilting and hand binding just last night. I didn't work on it nonstop though...but when I had a few hours to spend, I would sit down with it in my lap and stitch away. I am very pleased with the finished product. It will be Riley's quilt that he takes everywhere...meaning, when we go to a friends house and he lays down for a nap or we put him to bed there so we can stay up longer, this will be his quilt. To have and to hold. He, of course, has watched the whole process take place and continues to ask me who I'm making it for. Everytime, I answer that it is handmade for him, and he always acts as surprised and delighted as the first time I told him. Not sure if I'll wait until his third birthday to present it to him or maybe I'll just find another special occasion this summer.
It's my second quilt and each time I learn how to do it better next time. I debated whether or not to spend the time hand quilting it....but I am SO GLAD that I did. It makes the adorable illustrated fabric look that much more charming.
